New York Times best-selling novelist Charlaine Harris is scheduled to appear on Saturday, June 13th, as part of the second annual Author! Author! Book Festival hosted by Friends of Municipal Auditorium. She is the author of a number of mystery series, as well as the urban fantasy True Blood series.
Charlaine is speaking the afternoon of June 13th about the inspiration behind her popular True Blood heroine Sookie Stackhouse, as well as her feelings on the adaptation of her books as an HBO Original Series.
Local authors include Shelia Goss (The Ultimate Test, Paige's Web), Judy Christie (Good-bye Murphy's Law, Gone to Green), Winnie Griggs (Hand-Me-Down Family), Lenora Worth (Code of Honor), James P. Davis (Shield of Weeping Ghosts, The Restless Shore) and Connie Cox (Taking Flight). Author! Author! is also pleased to welcome authors Louis Maistros (The Sound of Building Coffins) and James Nolan (Perpetual Care and Other Stories) from New Orleans, Michael DeVault (Anything But Ordinary) of Monroe, and Bill Keith (The Commissioner: A True Story of Deceit, Dishonor, and Death) of Longview, TX. Bookworms in the Ballroom will provide literary entertainment for the younger set from 11-5 upstairs in the Municipal Auditorium Ballroom; with appearances by storytellers, Corduroy the Bear, Peter Pan Players, and Sci-Port; as well as storytimes, face painting, crafts and activities. The middle school set is invited to taste the Louisiana Young Readers Choice nominees at the Summer Reading Cafe. Students in Grade 1-6 during the 2009-2010 school year are invited to pick up a Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Journal at Author! Author!
Find a schedule of events and print out your FREE ticket at the Author! Author! website. FREE tickets may also be picked up from Barnes & Noble Booksellers at 6646 Youree Drive in Shreveport. Admission is FREE with the advance tickets or $2 at the door. Books to be signed must be purchased on-site the day of the festival. A portion of the sale of each book goes toward restoration and preservation of the historic auditorium.
